Cookie Policy
Effective Date: April 15, 2026
Last Updated: May 10, 2026
1. What This Page Covers
This Cookie Policy explains how Anchor uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies on the Anchor app and website (the "Service"). It is part of, and should be read together with, our Privacy Policy.
2. What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. They are commonly used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure how a site is used. The browser's local storage and IndexedDB work similarly and are also covered here.
3. Categories We Use
Strictly necessary
Authentication session. Set by our auth provider (Supabase) to keep you signed in across pages. Without it the Service cannot function. Cleared when you log out or when the session expires.
Service worker and offline cache.Anchor is a Progressive Web App. Our service worker stores a small cache of static files, recent pages, and queued actions in your browser's storage so the app keeps working when you're offline. This data stays on your device and is cleared when you uninstall the app or clear your browser storage.
Functional
Push notification subscription. If you opt into push notifications, your browser stores a subscription token locally and sends it to us so we can deliver notifications you've asked for. You can revoke push permission in your browser at any time.
UI preferences. A small amount of local storage is used to remember UI choices like recently viewed waterways or onboarding step completion.
Analytics (optional)
PostHog records anonymized product analytics events keyed to your account so we can understand which features are used and improve the app. You can disable analytics in Account Settings.
Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights measure page-load timing and Web Vitals. These are aggregate performance metrics, not advertising profiles.
Error tracking (optional)
Sentry captures error reports and performance traces when something breaks so we can fix it. You can disable error tracking in Account Settings.
Third-party services
Mapbox may set cookies or use local storage to render maps and remember map state when you use the waterway finder. Mapbox processes these under its own privacy policy.
hCaptcha sets a small number of cookies (and may use local storage) on pages that show the bot-protection challenge — primarily sign-up and certain abuse-prone forms. These cookies help hCaptcha tell humans from bots without tracking you across other sites. hCaptcha runs in privacy-preserving mode and processes interaction signals under its own privacy policy. Cookies clear when you close the challenge or complete the form.
4. What We Don't Use
Anchor does not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking pixels, or third-party re-targeting tags. We do not sell information collected through cookies.
5. Your Choices
- In-app: turn off optional analytics and error tracking in Account Settings.
- Push notifications: revoke notification permission in your browser (or in the operating system, for installed PWAs) and Anchor will stop sending push tokens to your device.
- Browser controls: most browsers let you block or delete cookies and site data. Doing so will sign you out and may prevent parts of the Service from working.
- Do Not Track: if your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, Anchor treats it as a signal to disable optional analytics and error tracking. Strictly necessary cookies still apply.
6. Changes
We will update this page when we add or remove a service that sets cookies or similar storage. The "Last Updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change.
